As another long weekend is upon us, we thought it’d be a great idea to highlight some activities that you can do with your family and friends! From crafting to cooking and volunteer work, below you will find a few great ways to celebrate Family Day weekend this year.

Roll up your sleeves and get Crafty!
Time to tap into your creative side, and pull out all the glitter, stickers and other things you can find around the house or at your local craft store. Set up a craft station in your home this Family Day weekend to entertain younger children, and of course reawaken your inner child! Throw in some healthy competition and have fun with it! You may not know it now, but this can be your family’s next favourite weekend pass time.

Cook a Family Meal
Nothing brings family together like food around the table. This time, why not get everyone involved in the process. Consider interactive and fun food ideas like making mini personalized pizzas, extravagant crepes and waffles or tackling a new muffin recipe for the first time.  Whatever’s on the menu, we are sure this idea would be a ‘fam favourite’.

Volunteering is good for the soul!
Many of us are fortunate to have family and friends to share this long weekend with, however there are many less fortunate than we are. This Family Day weekend, why not consider reaching out to a local organization or finding an event (ie: community clean up) to participate in. Not only is volunteering a great way to make an impact in your local community, it is an opportunity to bond with your family. There is no better feeling than giving back. Don’t take our word for it, try it out this weekend and let me know if we’re wrong!

Sign Up for a Class!
Maybe you’ve considered taking a ‘Salsa’ dance class once before, but never really ‘found an opportunity’ to try it out. This may be the ‘nudge’ you need to get into it. Take along the family or a friend for some great fun and get in some exercise while you’re at it. Not only is this a great way to spark new interests but an opportunity to teach children about a healthy lifestyle and setting up healthy habits for life.

Shoot some Family Day Content
Record a Video Message or Create your family’s first social media post. Sometimes, the entire family isn’t able to get together or maybe you and your family want to capture the most amazing Family Day weekend. Create short and fun video messages and send those to family members to let them know you’re thinking of them this long weekend. Alternatively, collect your photos and videos throughout the weekend and create a social media post to share with all your family, friends, and followers! You may not know it now, but you may be part of the next hottest social media trend! #FamilyDayWeekend

Check Out What’s Going on in the City
If you’re looking for some fun and adventure, take advantage of what the City of Toronto has to offer this long weekend. From catching a musical in Toronto’s magical castle, Casa Loma to gathering friends to tackle one of Torontos many escape rooms or lacing up your skates on one of Toronto’s 54 city-run outdoor rinks, including the Bentway; the rink beneath the Gardiner Expressway bridge. Ps. They’re hosting a DJ Skate Party on Monday February 20th. For more information on some of the many things to do in Toronto, click here.

No matter how you spend it, we encourage you to take advantage of the time to spend with friends and family. Wishing you nothing but the best this Family Day long weekend.

Regards,
Michael J. Simone
